Hi Ronald,

Thanks so much for your comment and sharing your story. I think you are right - fear of success is right up there with fear of failure. I love your example as it shows that another great remedy for getting beyond fear is to simply show up and walk through it. And the discovery that the origin of your fear is your own thoughts can be quite liberating.

One fear that is not often talked about or written about is the fear of success. I received a Fellowship from the American Association of Advertising Agencies almost 30 years ago. When I received my airline ticket and AAAA packet that told me what agency I would work at and where I would stay I became "fearful" of how I would perform working on Madison Avenue.
During the 10 week internship I met a lot of helpful agency people who guided me throughout the program. Although I was'nt offered a position after completing the internship I learned that most of my fears where unfounded. I was so thrilled to received my award for completing the intensive program and fulfilling my dream of working on Madison Avenue.Often times our greatest fear are self-imposed!

Hi Kelly,

I can so relate to what you describe. As well as to what Steve said. That's why I wrote the post. So glad it's helpful to you. And I have no doubt that test you're writing is going to be fabulous! Shine on, my friend.

Diane,
The timing of this couldn't be more relevant for me! I've spent the week writing the Level 1 test and you can't even imagine the dialogue going on in my head. It is amazing how much our thoughts influence everything. I finally had to stop feeding that dialogue because it certainly wasn't making anything better. Thank you so much for this post. I will definitely re-read it when the negative chatter box gets turned on!

Diane,

Just as your book is brilliant and speaks directly to my heart and my self destructive self talk so this this message. Thank you for your insight and expressing it with a real life analogy with which we can all relate.

Thanks so much for your comment, Lisa. I love what you said. Funny how the idea of staying busy sometimes keeps us from our most powerful experiences and insights. Here's to patience!

This is so good Diane! I love the thought to just wait a little while and the discomfort of change and growth will ease up and you might actually do something you never thought you could do! You just have to try and relax and be patient! lol who ever thought that would work...you have to keep "busy" all the time to be productive right?? wrong! reflection and challenging your previous beliefs and limitations is what helps us grow. Thank you for allowing me to reflect on this most important practice...patience.
